Winter Vacation Ideas

“Thinking of taking an impromptu vacation this winter? Here are some great places to take your kids that the whole family will love.”

We’ve already showed you the cost of a visit to Disney World, but if the magic kingdom doesn’t really appeal to you, then check out some of these other fun places.

The District of Columbia is a great vacation spot any time of year. With so many free or inexpensive attractions, it can be perfect for anyone trying to do a lot for a little money. Some fun things to do include visiting the Smithsonian, the White House, Lincoln Memorial and National Zoological Park. While you’re there be sure to check out Alexandria, named one of “America’s Top Holiday Towns” in 2016, it’s classic charm is just what you need to get in the Christmas spirit.

Want to get away from cold weather? Spend some time in the Bahamas. You’ve probably always wanted to go anyway so why not now? There are plenty of fun activities for kids such as swimming and whizzing down water slides. For a stress-free visit check out some of the all-inclusive resorts the islands have to offer.

Maybe your family loves snow and all things winter. If so, Colorado is right up your alley. Not only are there practically endless places to ski and snowboard, ice-skate and partake in other winter sports, there are also plenty of beautiful places to stay that feel so warm and cozy you’ll feel like you’re in your own holiday movie. Be sure to see at least one of the state’s festivals such as the Steamboat Spring’s Winter Carnival or the Grand Junction Winter Festival.

How about winter cruise? Most people think of cruises as a summer getaway, but it’s actually one of the most fun things you can do when cold weather strikes. Not only are you avoiding hurricane season but you’re getting a great deal on most cruise lines. There are plenty of family-friendly cruise lines your family may enjoy, such as the Disney Cruise Line ships where you can partake in Very Merrytime Cruises where you can enjoy experiences such as a tree-lighting ceremony, a winter wonderland ball, meet-and-greet with Santa, Deck the Deck Holiday party and much more. It’s all the fun of Disney, and a cruise rolled into one!

Don’t want to leave Michigan at all? That’s cool, you can still have a fun “get-a-way” type vacation at Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City. Even though it’s a waterpark there is still a very Christmas season feeling during their annual Snowland celebrations. Some of the activities you can enjoy are letters to Santa Writing Depot, a life-sized gingerbread house, story reading and even more. All of this in their temperature controlled resort where it’s always 84 degrees.
