Detroit- The Hub of Automotive Development

In its third year, the AutoMobili-D, held from January 14th-17th, reported another successful event.

Established in 2017, AutoMobili-D is an annual technology showcase designed to start conversations on the progression of mobility and foster connections between automotive industry professionals and businesses.

This year featured over 200 brands including 65 startups from 10 countries, global automakers, suppliers, universities and government organizations. Topics covered in keynote presentations and by panelists ranged from suppliers driving mobility technology, V2I connectivity, urban mobility, smart cities, building a mobility workforce, ride sharing, cybersecurity, and autonomous technologies.

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), Title Sponsor of AutoMobili-D, rolled out new initiatives for the 2019 show through PlanetM, the state’s partnership branding initiative to foster, retain and grow the mobility sector and position Michigan as the global epicenter for future transportation.

The first innovation, in its 2nd year at AutoMobili-D, was the Future Automotive Career Exposition (FACE), which highlights various aspects of the automotive industry and provides a platform for interested individuals to interact and connect with companies looking to fill positions covering all facets of the industry. Eight hundred candidates attended to meet with prospective employers looking to fill positions. These attendees were able to be interviewed by Human Resource representatives from various automotive companies and suppliers, hear presentations from leading Michigan companies, and higher-education institutions, as well as a panel of young professionals in the automotive sector share their stories on why they chose to live and work in Michigan.

The second innovation by MEDC/FACE was Match Meetings, where participating AutoMobili-D companies were connected to four key audience groups that they were matched to through a series of vetted, prescheduled meetings. Audience groups were automakers, startups, suppliers, and venture capitalists. This year, nearly 200 meetings were held with an additional 150 connections made through the PlanetM mobile app, which, according to MEDC/PlanetM, is still open and connections are continuing to be made.

AutoMobili-D continues to grow every year. This year alone, there was a 46 percent increase in exhibitors from around the world. There’s no telling how many more will attend in future years, bringing more talent and attention to the Motor City.
