Maybe your family always wears themed pajamas on Christmas morning, or open one present on Christmas eve. Whatever you do as a family, that’s your thing, but if you need a new thing, check these out.
Capture the memory
Take a picture of everyone posed in front of the Christmas tree.
Open a new game
Instead of opening one gift each, wrap a new game for your kids to open and play together as a family. It can be a board game, card game, or even a video game, as long as it gets everyone involved.
Make an ornament
Get crafty with this one! Grab supplies from your local craft store and have everyone make an ornament to hang on the tree. Add a little tag that has the person’s name who made it and the year. Soon you’ll have enough ornaments to fill the entire tree! If you don’t want to get your hands messy, play secret Santa, but instead of a gift, have everyone buy an ornament for one random family member. Open on Christmas Eve.
See the lights
Christmas lights are beautiful and one of the things that make Christmas magical. You can either drive around your neighborhood or head to the Detroit Zoo for their annual light display.
Read a Christmas story
Pick out a Christmas themed book (or two!) and read it to the little ones right before bed.
Have a scavenger hunt
Have the kids make paper snowflakes and take turns hiding them around the house.
Look forward and back
Have the kids write out a favorite memory from the previous year and a hope for the one to come. Read everyone’s list on Christmas Eve.
Get active
If there is snow, have a snowball fight or build snowmen at dusk. That ought to get the kids tired enough to sleep the entire night!
