City Hightlight- Allen Park

Little Wayne Magazine celebrates one of our unique cities by discussing its history, some interesting facts, and fun places to take children. This month we take a look at Allen Park.

Like much of Detroit and the Downriver area to which it belongs, Allen Park’s first settlers were French explores in the late 1600’s. In 1927, Allen Park became an incorporated Village of what was known as Ecorse Township. Named after Lewis Allen, a lumberman and lawyer who owned a large area of what is now Allen Park and Melvindale, it was not until the citizens living in Allen Park demanded they break away from the township and become a full city. After three attempts, they finally were approved in 1957.

  • Allen Park is home to the World’s Largest Tire, which used to be a Ferris wheel at the 1964 World’s fair.

You can see a movie for under two dollars at the Allen Park Digital Cinema.
